River Rock Flowers

These flowers were growing on a rock in the middle of a river. They just seemed out of place because all the other rocks were covered in moss, leaves, or broken tree limbs.

I love the repetition of the flowers Jen. It looks like maybe the scene was a little hot. In your attempt to recover your subject the background shadow detail was pushed into black. I don't want to be too critical because I do like the repetion of color and shape going on here. But, most of all I love your experimentation! Keep it up!

@Craiger: It was a difficult shot...the lighting was not ideal, the background was quite dark anyway and I was pretty far away on the bank of the river. I do appreciate any criticism...it's the only way I will continue to learn and push myself! I really like to keep my nature pictures as natural as I can, but the artiist in me just loves the effects I can get with ps...so I am trying to find a happy medium : D

Hey Jen: You know that starfish you thought looked like a small human - go have a look at this one Aquafotos site. Its bright blue. Anyway, your photo of the lovely, dainty little flowers is lovely. The darker sourroundings really make this delicate blue stand out :)

Wow Jen, this is cool, you really captured the flowers and the color so well and crisp against the dak background. I can see that it was a very difficult shot which you have excelled. :) Love it.

I get what Craiger is saying.. however, I think that because the blue of the flowers is so vibrant it supercedes the need for any real background detail. You have such a great eye, Jen!! ;-)

@amy: Thank you so much Amy...as I told Craig I try to keep my nature shots natural, but from time to time I experiment and push it just a bit...creative juices overflowing I guess ; )

I like it when people aren't afraid to let large areas of pure black be significant portions of their images. (But if you want to learn how to avoid that, study up on layer masks).

I'm learning and playing...I learn best by doing, and not having anyone around me who has any expertise in ps it's a matter of trial and error...but I'm having fun figuring it out.
