I have absolutely no idea what is all over this tree...fungus? I found the details just fasinating...so I took a shot.
Does anyone know what it might be?
8/18/08 - I will out of pocket for a while. My laptop is having issues and I need to get it over to a service center to fix it. I hope it doesn't take too long to get it fixed. Wish me luck!

I love this kind of photos, it's a kind of moss I'm sure, but what kind I don't know. I know someone who had to study hundreds of moss species for his biology-exam, try Google images and type "moss", maybe you get wiser. Fantastic picture, see also my moss-picture at http://erikspictures.aminus3.com/image/2007-03-15.html.

@Erik Tjallinks: Thank you Erik. Rahul informed me that it is a moss. I just love it when I learn something new!!
This is cool stuff Jen and i love the outstanding contrast in this picture and the vivid colors. Thank goodness you didn't go deeper into it and produced another superb macro out of it. Haha...
And, Erik is right, its a MOSS. A bryophyte ("Land Plants") which are non vascular, they have tissues and enclosed reproductive systems, but they lack vascular tissues that circulates liquids. They neither flower, not produce seeds and reproduce via spores. In simple terms, pretty complicated species hehehehe... ;-)

@Rahul: A good photographer and a biologist! You are a constant surprise Rahul!! : ) You know I thought it was moss, but I guess the flakey nature of it threw me off. Thanks!!
i love it

In World War II, Sphagnum mosses were used as first-aid dressings on soldiers' wounds.
This is a great shot. I like the bright green.

@Tim: Thank you Tim!
It looks to me like it could be a type of liverwort, and you got some spectacular colours and shapes. They hate pollution, so when you find them you know the air and atmosphere in your area is really good.

@Richard_Irwin: oh my then for a few days I was lucky enough to be in good air!!! : ) Thank you for the visit Richard!
Very nice shot Jen, lovely coulours and shapes and a crisp shot. I think it's some parasitic plant and not a fungus.

It looks almost like the tree has developed a rash, doesn't it? What's the plant version of Diaperine?
